Personalised Learning

Personalised learning programs are developed for students across the school to cater for their diverse needs and interests. Opportunities are often provided for input from families in the planning stages, as well as staff and students, to help ensure the most effective individual programs are implemented.

Examples include:

  • Debating
  • Robotics
  • Chess
  • Mathematics
  • Science competitions
  • the CHIPS Program (Children of Higher Intellectual Potential)
  • the Tournament of Minds
  • After-school tutorials

The various enrichment programs implemented across the school enhance student learning at all levels through additional classroom support, assistance with class work, the provision of more complex and challenging tasks and opportunities to become involved in problem-solving activities with students from other schools, such as through the G.A.T.E WAYS Program.

Learning Support

At Southern Cross Grammar, we aim to deliver academic programs that allow all students to achieve success, regardless of their interests and abilities. Following communication with families and relevant professionals where appropriate, selected students are provided with additional support in order to achieve this.

The various types of support include small group work working through differentiated tasks, individual tutoring, in-class assistance from a member of the Student Services Team, and assistance with homework during after-school sessions. Specialised assistance is available from an Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist and/or Psychologist/Counsellor.

Bring Your Own Device Program

Students in Year 7 to Year 12 are able to bring a laptop of their choice. This program provides for the selection and purchase of a device that best meets both the functional and financial priorities of each family. Whilst not compulsory it is desirable that students have access to a device when required.

The school does require that devices use either a Windows10 or MacOS operating system.

Students in Foundation to Year 6 will continue to be required to bring their own iPad, with students in Year 7 to Year 12 also welcome to bring an iPad in conjunction with their laptop.

2020 BYOD Requirements

Southern Cross Grammar will be continuing our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program in 2020. Students within Foundation to Year 6 are required to bring an iPad, while students in Year 7 to Year 12 will bring their own laptop. Click the link below to learn more about the hardware specifications for the BYOD Program.
