Secondary School

At Southern Cross Grammar, our approach to teaching and learning is grounded in evidence-based practice and a commitment to ensuring every student achieves their full academic potential.

We are proud of our culture of high expectations, where learning is purposeful, explicit, and supported by research.

Lessons are structured with clear intentions, direct teaching, guided practice, and opportunities for independent application. Teachers regularly collaborate to analyse data, evaluate progress, and refine their practice, ensuring that every student is both challenged and supported.

We also recognise that academic achievement flourishes when paired with wellbeing. By fostering strong relationships and an inclusive, safe environment, we empower students to become confident, resilient, and motivated learners ready to contribute meaningfully beyond the classroom.

At Southern Cross Grammar, we believe that continuous improvement comes from clarity of purpose, evidence-based practice, and strong relationships. Together, our teachers and students set ambitious goals and pursue them with determination.

Years 7–8

The first years of Secondary School mark an important transition where students begin to explore, discover, and define their interests as independent learners.

Our Years 7–8 program provides a broad foundation, combining strong core subjects with diverse elective opportunities that encourage curiosity and growth.

Students study English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, and Physical Education, alongside enriching subjects such as Drama, Music, Food Technology, Art, Digital Technologies, Mandarin Chinese, French, Creative Writing, Business and more.

This breadth allows students to explore a range of disciplines while developing the skills, discipline, and confidence needed for success in later years.

Years 9–10

Our Years 9-10 program focuses on empowering students to make informed decisions about their future VCE choices while developing independence, responsibility, and a strong academic foundation for success in the Senior School.

Students engage in a balanced mix of core and elective subjects, giving them the flexibility to explore areas of personal interest while beginning to specialise in fields they may pursue in VCE. Pre-VCE pathways are also introduced to support students to build the confidence, skills, and understanding required for senior study.

Furthermore, from Year 10, students who demonstrate academic readiness and high achievements have the opportunity to participate in our Accelerated VCE Program which provides early access to VCE learning.

While the goal may be the destination, it is the learning journey—built on trust, collaboration, and high standards—that defines our success.

Years 11–12 (VCE)

The Senior School represents the culmination of each student’s learning journey at Southern Cross Grammar.

Students consolidate their knowledge and apply their skills through the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), supported by expert teaching, structured learning, and strong pastoral care.

Comprehensive pathways and course counselling ensure students select programs that align with their strengths, interests, and future aspirations. Whether they pursue university study, vocational education, or other pathways, each student receives individualised guidance and support to reach their goals.

Learning in the Senior School is defined by rigour, collaboration, and accountability. Students also engage in leadership, community service, and extracurricular opportunities that promote balance and wellbeing.

Southern Cross Grammar students graduate as capable, confident, and well-rounded young adults, ready to succeed in whatever path they choose next.
