Student Success in the 2025 Australian Mathematics Competition

Southern Cross Grammar is proud to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our students who participated in the 2025 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC).

First run in 1978, the AMC is Australia’s longest running, largest, and most well-known maths competition for school students. It challenges students to apply mathematical reasoning, creativity, and persistence in solving complex problems. Our students demonstrated these qualities in abundance, achieving outstanding results across the school.

Across Years 7–12, our Secondary cohort excelled with 30 students achieving High Distinction, placing them in the top 3% of students in their year level and region. 23 students achieved a Distinction placing them in the top 20% of students in their year level and region highlighting the depth of talent and consistent effort within our Secondary Mathematics cohort.

In a positive reflection of their growing confidence and curiousity as young mathematicians, our Primary students also achieved impressive results. Eleven students achieved a Distinction, placing them in the top 3% of students in their year level and region and 31 students were awarded Credit.

We are delighted to acknowledge our top‑performing students:

  • Best in School (Primary): Keilen
  • Best in School (Secondary): Zaid
  • Prize Award (Top student in year and region): Aayan

When speaking of our students' outstanding competition results Head of Mathematics, Ms Kim Johnson, said:

"At Southern Cross Grammar, we are proud to support and celebrate our students’ ambition in Mathematics through engaged classroom programs, targeted extension opportunities, and enrichment experiences like the Australian Mathematics Competition. Our 2025 results reflect the strength of our mathematics program and the broader mathematics culture here at SCG.

"From Foundation-Year 12 our students are encouraged to challenge themselves and strive for personal excellence. They are supported by teachers who provide clear instruction, individualised support, and opportunities for students to embrace deep mathematical thinking with confidence."

As we celebrate our students' success, we recognise the dedication behind each achievement and remain committed to providing rich, challenging, and engaging mathematics opportunities for all our students.
