At Southern Cross Grammar (SCG), our students are never too young to have a big idea or make a meaningful impact.
Last term, our school community came together in support of the Good Friday Appeal, led by Year 5 Student Olivia (SCG Class of 2033). Driven by her passion and determination, and with the support of our staff and student leaders, Olivia galvanised students and staff across Primary and Secondary to get involved in fundraising efforts on the last day of term.
And in show of support that defines our school community, we all did.
Students and staff came to school with creative crazy hair styles and silly socks, student leaders collected gold coin donations in homeroom, and our Parents and Friends Committee (PFC) ran a lunchtime sausage sizzle to raise additional funds. From the first gold coin donation to the last, each added to a truly significant cause.
Together, we raised over $3,000 for the Good Friday Appeal. The funds raised will support the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne to deliver world-class care and life-saving research for children in need.
Speaking to her peers at the Primary School Assembly, Olivia said:
“I wanted to start this initiative because the Royal Children's Hospital is such a special place. It helps so many kids, including some of our own friends and family here at SCG, get better and stay strong. I knew that if our school community came together, we could make a real difference for the Good Friday Appeal.
“I want to say a huge ‘Thank you’ to the PFC and staff for helping me organise the day and [to you for] getting into the spirit with your own crazy hair and socks.
“Thank you for bringing in your donations, for participating so enthusiastically, and for showing how much our school cares about helping others.
“It just goes to show that you are never too young to have a big idea and make a big impact.”
We are immensely proud of Olivia’s leadership, compassion, and initiative, and the way our community rallied around her to support a cause that has touched the hearts and lives of so many.
